Performed by Wukir Suryadi through the Sustainable Sonic Engine

In this immersive solo performance, Wukir Suryadi presents his experimental, futuristic instrument, the Sustainable Sonic Engine, engaging in an intimate, wordless dialogue with Poland’s material and cultural remnants.

Stepping onto the podium (“Podium”), Suryadi looks upward (“Nginguk”) and explores the contrasting duality between the cold, material weight of the local currency—the złoty—and the fragile spiritual purity of the ritual Christmas wafer—the opłatek. Guided by a purely intuitive force (“Dźwięk Intuicji” / “The Sound of Intuition”), he creates a form of spiritual friction, confronting the burden of earthly material obsessions with the fragility of human relationships. Through a cosmic matrix of 777 vibrations, this metallic tension is transformed into a universal alarm signal (“T I T I R”)—a resounding wake-up call in response to our shared global and ecological crises.

Moving seamlessly from microscopic, meditative inner turmoil (“Sopo Ingsun”) to a dense, post-industrial eruption of friction (“Industrial Mutant”), Suryadi’s performance remains far from prescriptive. Instead, he invites the audience to enter a collective ritual of reflection, resilience and healing (“Siklus dan Doa”).

Wukir Suryadi is an Indonesian experimental musician, composer and instrument maker, born in Malang in 1977 and currently based in Salatiga, Central Java. Also known as one half of the duo Senyawa, he has developed an interdisciplinary practice at the intersection of craftsmanship, sound installation and radical performance. His work has been presented at institutions including the Weltkulturen Museum, STEIM – Studio for Electro-Instrumental Music, Kyoto Art Center and the National Gallery of Victoria, as well as at the Asian Art Biennial, Jakarta Biennale and Biennale Jogja.

At the heart of his practice are original instruments constructed from natural materials, everyday objects, and components of machines and tools. Creations such as Bambu Wukir, Garu, Industrial Mutant and the Sustainable Sonic Engine enable him to produce a vast spectrum of sounds—from meditative, subtle structures to intense, post-industrial distortions. For Suryadi, working with materials also becomes a way of addressing environmental issues and exploring the relationship between humans, technology and their surroundings.
