Hydrahelia is a New York-based music and performance duo formed by Tim Dahl and Azumi OE. The artists first met on stage in 2020 during a performance at Ideal Glass in the East Village, beginning an intense collaboration developed at the intersection of experimental sound, dance and performance art.

Born in Kyoto, Azumi OE has been involved with butoh from an early age. In her work, she uses movement, costume and light to address themes of repression, taboo and bodily limitations. Her performances are direct and often confrontational, testing both the artist’s body and the audience’s perception.

Tim Dahl constructs his own sonic world using voice, bass guitar and a processed microphone. His sound combines roughness with subtlety, moving beyond traditional divisions between instrument, voice and electronics. Over more than thirty years of artistic activity, he has collaborated with artists including Lydia Lunch, the band Child Abuse and Yusef Lateef. In Hydrahelia, sound and body function as equal, mutually responsive forces, creating an intense spectacle that challenges the conventional boundaries between concert, dance and performance.
