Thomas Mahmoud is a Berlin-based interdisciplinary artist, musician, performer, sound designer and curator. In his solo project NYX NYX, he works with elements that are usually removed during music production: noise, feedback, the hum of cables, breath and accidental recording errors. Using analogue and digital tools, he transforms these sonic remnants into multilayered compositions built from textures, polyrhythms, polymetres, pulsating bass lines and abstract sound sculptures.

NYX NYX began as a collaboration between Mahmoud and Andi Toma — a composer and musician associated with Mouse on Mars. Between 2019 and 2023, the artists recorded material together, and in 2025 Mahmoud returned to the project, beginning work on the album END OF MARS 2. Over the course of his career, he has also co-founded or contributed to projects including The Nest, SFX, Phoebe Killdeer & The Shift, T.O.T. BAND, MFX, TRIGGS and the duo Kuźniak & Mahmoud.

The artist has been associated with Avant Art Festival for many years. In 2014, he appeared in the festival programme with The Nest, and in 2022 he performed at the Berlin edition as Kuźniak & Mahmoud, presenting a multichannel sound installation and a concert connected with the release of the album Never Never. In 2025, he returned to the Wrocław edition of Avant Art, where he presented the premiere concert of a new chapter of the NYX NYX project at Klub Szalonych.
