Mariam Rezaei is a British-Iranian composer, turntablist and performer whose practice spans contemporary experimental music, free improvisation, noise, mutant club music and hip-hop. Expanding upon classic turntablist techniques, she treats turntables as fully fledged compositional instruments, allowing her to transform an extensive archive of samples in real time. Her original methods include free juggling, turntable sines, needle dripping, fractured loops and needle weaving.

Released in 2024, the album FRACTURED was recorded live in single takes using between two and four turntables. Rezaei brings together punk, breakcore, electroacoustic music, Eurodance, avant-rock, grime, hip-hop and free noise, not so much combining genres as breaking down their logic and reassembling it. The result is raw, physical music full of sudden shifts, yet also capable of moving into more focused, drone-based forms.

The artist works both solo and in chamber, orchestral and operatic settings. Her major projects include Scholar’s Record for Donaueschinger Musiktage 2025 and 6 Scenes for Turntable and Orchestra, created with Matthew Shlomowitz and performed with orchestras in Darmstadt, Glasgow, Brussels and Warsaw. She is a member of The Sleep of Reason Produces Monsters, Turntable Trio, the project 1984 and Fire! Orchestra, and has collaborated with artists including Bill Orcutt, Pat Thomas, Mats Gustafsson, Jennifer Walshe, Thurston Moore, Okkyung Lee, Valentina Magaletti and Lukas König. In 2022, she received the Paul Hamlyn Foundation #AwardsForArtists in recognition of her contribution to music composition.
