Nils Amadeus Lange (*1989, Cologne, Germany) is an artist, performer, and lecturer based in Zurich. Trained in theatre at the Bern University of the Arts, his extensive experience in the performing arts informs an interdisciplinary practice spanning performance, choreography, and visual art.

Lange uses his own body as a central material in his work. His practice is often referential, working with existing artworks, images, texts, historical figures, and other cultural material. Through performance, he appropriates and reworks these references, placing them in new contexts and creating connections across different histories and forms. His current research is driven by an ongoing interest in how performance can be documented, transmitted, and reactivated, with a particular focus on queer and feminist performance histories.

Lange’s work has been presented internationally at institutions including Kunsthaus Zürich, Kunsthalle Zürich, Kunsthalle Basel, Migros Museum für Gegenwartskunst Zürich, Centre d’Art Contemporain Genève, Arsenic Lausanne, Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art in Warsaw, Belvedere 21 in Vienna, Istituto Svizzero in Rome, Berliner Festspiele, Kunsthalle Bern, Les Urbaines Lausanne, Cabaret Voltaire Zurich, and CounterPulse in San Francisco. He received the Swiss Art Award in 2023 and has received several work grants from the City and Canton of Zurich.

Alongside his artistic practice, Lange has been teaching for many years at art schools and universities in Switzerland and internationally. He is currently a lecturer in Performance at the Institute of Fashion Design at the Basel Academy of Art and Design FHNW. His teaching spans performance, fashion, fine arts, and interdisciplinary artistic practice, with a particular interest in experimental and alternative forms of learning and in the body as a site of knowledge and artistic experimentation.
