A Welsh father-and-daughter duo formed by Gustav Thomas and Elvin Brandhi. The project grew out of a desire to create during every spare moment: the artists began turning family car journeys into spontaneous recording sessions, working with compact speakers, dictaphones, samplers, a camera and a microphone. Mobility became the foundation of their practice, in which improvised musical and geographical excursions blur the boundary between performance and everyday life.

Thomas’s distorted, jagged synthesis creates a space for Brandhi’s improvised lyrics — intense streams of consciousness that take the form of lo-fi noise, dismantled freestyle and warped pop requiems. Each performance emerges in response to the immediate place, situation and surroundings, making Yeah You’s music unpredictable, direct and radically rooted in the present moment. The duo have performed at festivals including Sonic Acts, Borealis, Counterflows and Supernormal, while their recordings have been released by Alter, Slip Imprint and Opal Tapes.

At Avant Art Festival, Yeah You will perform inside a car positioned in front of the entrance to Stroboskop Space — a gallery located in a garage. This setting brings the project back to its origins: once again, the car will become a studio, a stage and a space for family improvisation all at once. The concert will accompany the exhibition Automotive, which explores the fascination with the car as a machine, an object of desire and an extension of the human body.

It was through Yeah You that we first encountered Elvin Brandhi, who has returned to Avant Art in subsequent years with a series of different projects. Following four previous appearances — solo and as part of ECKO ELVIN, Elvin Brandhi & Sara Persico and PLF — she will present at the festival, for the first time, the project that marked the beginning of our artistic relationship.
