Mopcut is an international trio formed by experimental vocalist and electronic artist Audrey Chen, percussionist Lukas König and French guitarist Julien Desprez. Their music resists genre divisions, combining free improvisation, noise, electronics, post-punk and rock intensity. Chen’s ecstatic vocals, Desprez’s electric guitar, and König’s drums, synthesisers and voice create dense, rapidly shifting structures that balance uncontrolled expression with tightly focused noise.

The project was conceived as a way of constructing sound that completely surrounds the audience and acts with equal force on the ears, the body and the imagination. Improvisation becomes a form of communication based on tension, micro-explosions and the constant mutation of musical material. Mopcut made their debut at donaufestival in Krems in 2018, and their subsequent work has consistently expanded the field of radical experimental music.

At Avant Art Festival, the trio will be joined by MC Dälek — an avant-garde hip-hop artist, vocalist and producer who contributed to Mopcut’s latest album, RYOK, released in 2025 by heat crimes. The material combines free improvisation, hip-hop, noise, post-punk and electronics into an intense, politically charged whole. MC Dälek’s voice and electronics add further weight, rhythmic tension and radical energy to the group’s sound.
