OSMIUM is an international project co-created by Icelandic composer and cellist Hildur Guðnadóttir, Academy Award winner for her score to Joker; James Ginzburg, an artist associated with the duo Emptyset and the Subtext label; Rully Shabara of Senyawa; and Grammy-winning producer and sound designer Sam Slater.

Their music creates dense electroacoustic landscapes in which metallic drones, fractured rhythms and biomechanical vocalisations form an intense and ambiguous vision of the relationship between humans and machines. OSMIUM explores tensions between tradition and progress, individual expression and collective experience, as well as the past and possible scenarios for the future.

The group’s debut album, released by Invada Records in June 2025, draws on folk music, doom metal, twentieth-century minimalism, industrial music and extreme noise, while resisting any clear genre classification. It is monumental and physical music, yet precisely constructed — archaic and futuristic at the same time.
