DJ Scotch Egg feat. Ethnique Punch & Mo’ong (JP/TUR/DE) // Nyege Nyege Tapes showcase
Shigeru Ishihara aka DJ Scotch Egg aka DJ Scotch Rolex is a boundary-crossing musician, producer and veteran of the electronic scene hailing from Tokyo. For almost two decades, he has been travelling between all musical genres, combining and gluing them together into rough, harsh and decisive sounds. He took his first steps in Brighton’s underground scene in the 2000s, where he exploded onto the UK underground scene with his guitar experimentation and heavy and genre- bending improvisations, building a legion of devoted followers who came from remote areas of the UK and Europe to experience his energetic and electrifying performances. Since moving to Berlin in 2011, Scotch Egg’s sound has evolved, embracing influences from hip hop, trap and dub.
Performing alongside DJ Scotch Egg will be Ethnique Punch – a Turkish MC, producer and visual artist stationed in Bremen. Since the release of his debut album Avantür in 2009, Ethnique Punch has released several albums, collaborations and videos as part of his search for mystical power in music and film. Hypnotic and dynamic beats in which he experiments with combining ethnic melodic scales with percussion, field recordings and harsh drums have become hallmarks of his productions, alongside his deep, mysterious voice and fierce flow combined with rhymes and Turkish language sounds.
The guest at the Berlin concert will be Mo’ong – Bangkok-born and Java-raised Johanes “Mo’ong” Santoso Pribadi, a composer of experimental music and instrument builder. His main area of research is Nusantara music, or the music of Indonesia.
