NYX NYX is the solo project of Berlin-based interdisciplinary artist, musician, sound designer, performer, and curator Thomas Mahmoud. Where many musicians erase mistakes—carefully filtering out static, cleaning up recording glitches—Mahmoud leans into them. He captures the hiss instead of the tone, the breath instead of the voice, embracing the sonic residue others discard.

NYX NYX explores the deconstruction of sound using both analog and digital tools. The project moves through textures, polyrhythms, polymetrics, danceable bassworms, and abstract sound sculptures.

Originally launched as a collaborative project with Andi Toma—composer and experimental musician from the iconic electronic band Mouse on Mars—Mahmoud and Toma recorded together between 2019 and 2023. The results are still “hot on the hard drive,” waiting to be unleashed.

In early 2025, Mahmoud returned to NYX NYX with renewed energy, now working on a new album titled “END OF MARS 2”, to be released on UNIVERSAL SPAM!

NYX NYX sounds sexy like World Domination Enterprises, danceable like Masonna, toxic like Britney Spears, and funky like Bauhaus. Or maybe not!?

The premiere performance of this new chapter will take place at Avant Art Festival Wrocław 2025.
