THE WORLD’S DUMBEST RECORD

THE WORLD’S DUMBEST RECORD
dir. Konrad Kulczyński, Jakub Knera / 2025 / Poland / 72 min
The film tells the story of the creation of one of the most intriguing and groundbreaking albums in Polish alternative music – “P.O.L.O.V.I.R.U.S.” by the band Kury. Released in 1998 and crafted by musicians gathered around Tymon Tymański, the album became a satirical summary of Poland’s 1990s and remains one of the most important works in the history of the country’s independent music scene.
The documentary immerses viewers in the reality of the political transformation, showing both the social and political backdrop of the era and the colorful world of the Tri-City artistic bohemia. The filmmakers not only explore the process of creating the album but also the broader context of the music scene developing in the Tri-City – one of the most vibrant and creative cultural hubs in Poland at the time.
The film features conversations with the album’s creators, artists, journalists, and members of the yass movement, who recount the unique creative ferment of the 1990s. It is also a story about Polish music in the age of emerging capitalism – about the clash between artistic freedom and market realities, the influence of major record labels and independent imprints, and the constant tension between the mainstream and the underground.
