Mopcut ft. MC dälek (INT)

International trio consisting of experimental vocalist and electronic producer Audrey Chen (USA), French guitarist Julien Desprez and Austrian drummer Lukas König. The band was formed in 2018, debuting at donaufestival in Krems (Austria) as a “three-headed noise beast” combining free jazz improvisation, punk energy and unbridled sound art.
Their latest album RYOK is a manifesto of genre fluidity – it opens with a deconstruction of grooves and rock riffs, moving into a noisy hip-hop track featuring legendary MC dälek, who will join the band during the Avant Art Festival concert in Wrocław.
The band’s discography includes “Accelerated Frames of Reference” (2018), “JITTER” (2021) – described as “a condensation of EAI’s performative history, with all silence ejected” – and their latest album “RYOK,” which is a “manifesto of genre fluidity.” The album opens with a deconstruction of grooves and rock riffs, moving into a noisy hip-hop track featuring legendary MC dälek.
Media describe Mopcut as creators of “a series of evocative electro-soundscapes, the noises of a dense cosmopolis, as chilling as they are alluring” (NYC Jazz Records). Their work is “repulsively fascinating and equally exhausting” (Opal Tapes), while The Wire notes it’s “a tightly disciplined yet exuberant set of performances.”
As Audrey Chen says: “We want to create a construct of sounds and noises that completely envelops the listeners and affects the ears as intensely as the inner eye.” Invisible Oranges adds: “What defines Mopcut is the tendency to rapidly change perspective,” where “the duality of maximalism and minimalism has a common point of origin.”
