Ugory (PL)
Ugory is an eclectic musical collective from Poznań, which originated in the attic of a family home in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian village of Smarzykowo. The band has been active since the mid-2010s, with a dynamic lineup that changes depending on the project. Ugory focuses on exploring Polish rural life, its daily routines, customs, and pathologies, which form the central theme of their work.
The band started as a solo ambient project but has undergone a series of stylistic transformations, evolving from ambient-noise sounds to increasingly heavier guitar compositions. They are known for their dynamic live performances, often changing from a trio to an octet. Their music combines elements of various genres, drawing inspiration from the everyday experiences and personal stories of the band members.
The latest album, “Matko ciszy,” created by five members, marks another new beginning in the dynamic history of Ugory. In 2023, the band performed at the OFF Festival in Katowice, and a year later, they were nominated for the Fryderyk Award in the metal album of the year category for their album “Wicher.” Ugory has released eight albums and an EP, and their music was also featured in the game Cyberpunk 2077.
Ugory is described as a band that surprises with its diversity and ability to adapt to various musical styles. Their music is full of unexpected solutions, making each concert and project a unique experience.
“Each album is a new start, and music is a safety valve for us that allows us not to go crazy in everyday life,” emphasizes Marcel Gawinecki.
