TEST (BR)
The band from São Paulo was founded in 2011 by João Kombi (vocals, guitar) and Thiago Barata (drums).
Initially performing on the streets and outside major metal concerts, the band powered their performances with a generator placed in an old VW Kombi. TEST has come a long way, gaining recognition both among fans and in the music industry, with endorsements from figures such as Shane Embury of Napalm Death and brothers Max and Iggor Cavalera, who have ranked Barata as one of the ten best drummers of all time.
TEST’s music has evolved from classic deathgrind to more experimental forms of metal, combining the rawness of grindcore with elements of punk. The band is now known for its spontaneity and openness to diverse inspirations, which is reflected in their many unconventional projects.
They have performed at many prestigious festivals, such as Obscene Extreme in the Czech Republic and Maryland Deathfest in the USA, as well as numerous independent music festivals and major clubs in Brazil. TEST’s discography includes 16 releases, including full-length albums, EPs, and split albums with bands from various parts of the world, such as Nepal, the USA, and China. The band has over 800 concerts across all states of Brazil and 14 international tours covering the USA, Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, and Europe.
The band is known for its harsh criticism of the music industry for its uniformity and mass production of content. In one interview, João Kombi expressed frustration when asked about the absence of their music on popular streaming platforms: “We like to promote our work in our own way. Nowadays, everything is canned, with thousands of releases every day, it’s very difficult to assimilate. Everyone uses the same language (…)”
