RAVE
Directed by Łukasz Ronduda, Dawid Nickel / 2024 / Poland / 79 minutes
The film explores techno music and rave culture in Poland, guided by two young ravers from Generation Z: Marysia and Janusz, along with Marcello Zamenhoff, a performer and one of the pioneers of techno in the country. The young protagonists are fascinated by the 1990s’ fashion but are also critically aware of the naivety and utopian ideals of the first Polish techno generation. The film contrasts contemporary times with unique archival footage of Polish parties from 30 years ago, representing the clash between urban, artistic rave culture and rural techno parties exemplified by the Ekwador club in Manieczki. The characters seek answers to a fundamental question: Can the younger generation reconcile the class-divided club scene in Poland that has persisted since the 1990s?
