DEAFKIDS (BR)
Another avant-garde punk crew whose sound defies easy definition. Yet, it’s hard not to fall into clichés when describing the Brazilian trio, as they experiment with combining the rawness of punk, the sequenced patterns of metal, hypnotic vocals with trance-like polyrhythms, and pulsating, unsettling electronic sounds.
The trio boasts an extensive discography released through labels like Neurot Recordings, Rapid Eye Records, and Rocket Recordings in the UK. In 2019, they released a collaborative two-song EP with the São Paulo duo Rakta and contributed to the Cyberpunk 2077 soundtrack.
Their albums—Metaprogramação, DEADBRICK, Ritos do Colapso—are acclaimed by international music magazines and festivals for blending elements of hardcore punk initiation, various metal incarnations, rhythmic tribalism, and experiments akin to Sepultura’s psychedelic music or Motorhead’s heavily delayed rock.
DEAFKIDS’ music draws from Brazil’s rich intercultural heritage, both musically and politically. The band’s percussion draws influence from genres like Samba, Lundu, Frevo, Pagode, Forró, Baião, and Carimbó. In interviews with Metal Invader and Sick Drummer Magazine, they’ve discussed how the economic disparities in Brazil brought them together and shaped their music. When asked about Brazil’s political situation, they assert, “being neutral is not an option.”
The musicians have performed in Poland before, but this will be their first time presenting their psychedelic concert at AAF 24.
