The Avant Art Festival is a well-known event in Poland dedicated to experimental and avant-garde music and art. In its 17th edition this year in Wrocław and 8th in Warsaw, it will also commence an exceptionally significant 3-year presence in Lower Silesia beginning early July. From July 5-7, the Avant Art Festival will debut in Wałbrzych for the first time, followed by special events in Legnica at the end of July.

Among the announced projects for the Wałbrzych edition, attendees will experience: a duet by Luciana Rizzo and Piotr Damasiewicz, solo concerts by Wojtek Mazolewski and Daniel Szwed, the latest award-winning project by saxophonist and clarinetist Marek Pospieszalski (Octet), performances by Marmur (Rumiński/Moretti) and Zdrój, Belgian composer and performer Daisy Ray.

The festival’s performative character will be complemented by Martyna Konieczna’s fashion show “no_przesada” and a film section under Avant Art Film featuring “Rave” (dir. Łukasz Ronduda Dawid), “Licht: Madness and Opera,” and “Singeli Movement: Greed for Speed” (dir. Jan Moszumański).

In support of the local music scene, the organizers plan to conduct one of their flagship projects, “Open Call for sonic art,” with the winner performing as part of this year’s program in Wałbrzych.

Avant Art Festival 2024 Wałbrzych is funded by the budget of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship and the Municipality of Wałbrzych. The main partner of the Wałbrzych edition is the Centre for Science, Culture, and Art Stara Kopalnia in Wałbrzych, with the festival project being carried out in close collaboration with partners including the Lower Silesian Film Centre (DCF), Wałbrzych Art Gallery BWA, Kino Apollo, and Harcówka PTTK.
