Neo-colonialism – oh no!
“Neo-colonialism – oh no!”
Polish record labels, artists and creators and music from Africa
A meeting with three people, from three different institutions, who promote African music and culture in very different ways, these are representatives of Polish organisations – record publishers and film studios. We want to show that there are people and organisations in Poland which deal with African art and music in a professional and very interesting way. For the participants of the meeting, the most important thing is that it is precisely the artists from Africa who innovate, who mix in an unusual way influences, inspirations and, finally, sounds, thus mixing local and international influences to create a new original and extremely interesting contemporary music scene, their answer to the effects of post-colonialism or, more precisely, neo-colonialism in art.
Where does avant-garde music come from?
The West has (too) long been considered the breeding ground of innovative musical movements and is the only one with a monopoly on all eyes. Eco Bazz, Don Zilla Duma and many others we will talk about are the very artists from Africa who are freely breaking with this experience, celebrating an era of global music whose epicentre is moving from the West to Africa, Latin America, the Middle East, Asia….
