Gerard Lebik plays Wacław Szpakowski (1883–1973) / Rhythmical lines
The project aims to transpose Wacław Szpakowski’s visual art into sound through the sonification of space, creating an ambisonic auditory experience. Inspired by Szpakowski’s geometric art, I seek to transform its essence into a multi-layered acoustic structure that transcends the boundaries of visual perception and delves into the realm of psychoacoustic auditory sensations. This sonic act uses sine waves and their diffractive properties in a specific architectural context creating 4D spatial composition.
Wacław Szpakowski (1883–1973) was a pioneer of global geometric art, minimalism, and op-art, and the leading figure in the shaping of the Polish avant-garde. He believed in creating a coherent visual system for describing reality and exploring rhythmic patterns in nature, architecture, science, and art. He developed a unique language of forms and signs reflecting the world’s partial structure, and his works are in the collection of the Museum of Art in Łódź and the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
