The 10th anniversary edition of the Avant Art Festival, with its program and underlying concept, forms a bridge between the ever-evolving idea that has fueled the previous editions and the result of a consistent development of the festival which is tirelessly trying to present the widest array of the experimental, avant-garde music and art. In addition to the Wrocław edition (27.09-13.10), this year’s AAF will take place, with a modified programme, in Warsaw (02.10-11.10). The focus of the musical, performative and film presentations will be on the sound and visual phenomena that function, often in an extreme way, always unflinchingly, on the genres’ edges and junctions, and expand them into new registers through reduction/transgression.

Starting with the techno-contingent, through jazz/improv explorations, inter-genre fusions, up to idea- and production-based experiments and festival autorefences, the program of the 2017 edition might be described as a logical continuation of old concepts and an introduction of new ones. In the tenth year of its presence in Wrocław, the festival will present the Warsaw audience for the first time with a concept suspended between the ever-evolving idea that has fueled the previous editions and the result of a consistent development of the festival which is tirelessly trying to present the widest array of the experimental, avant-garde music and art. Among the artists invited to participate in the Warsaw edition are: Dean Blunt, an artist beloved by the Wrocław audience, in his newest project: Babyfather, with the support of DJ Escrow;  and Justin Broadrick, a total artist, (known for participation in cult projects like Godflesh, Techno Animal, Ice, Jesu etc.) showing his technoidal side as JK Flesh. A wall of techno sounds and brutal disco explorations, built by Powell, Regis and Actress, will be broken by a wave of legendary grime by the masterful MC Flowdan. There will be tender but precise, half-synthetic repetitions on the verge of postrock and distinctive artrock reduction created by Radian and a world of a versatile experimentator that is Oren Ambarchi, known through his works with the likes of Sunn O))), Keiji Haino, Fennesz or Otomo Yoshihide. In addition, Łoskot – a legendary yass band with their first Warsaw concert in awhile, Black Dice, a noiserock musician from New York, and a Polish representation: Piernikowski, Lutto Lento and TSVEY, The Kurws, and BNNT featuring Mats Gustafsson. Screenings of music documentaries at the Muranów Cinema will serve as a way to wind down.
