Phew (Hiromi Moritani) with her band Aunt Sally participated in the creation of fist wave of Japanese punkrock, and in 1981 released her first solo outing – recorded with help of Holger Czukay and Jaki Liebezeit of Can. New wave cold engages here with krautrock-derived motorik, building constructs precise and balanced, as well as strongly emotive, bleak and spatial. She has collaborated with artists such as Bill Laswell, Jim O’Rourke or Ryuichi Sakamoto. Her newest, 2015′s, album signals a return to minimal forms – sparse and individual. Electronic non-platitudes, broken harmonies, damaged machine-generated rhythms.
